Four French banks among the 30 largest establishments in the world

Four French establishments, the Crédit Agricole (12th), BNP Paribas (13th), BPCE (Banque Populaire, Caisse d’Épargne) (20th) and the Société Générale (29th), came in amongst the leading 1,000 banks in the world, ranked by equity, published on July 1, 2019 by the British monthly The Banker.

Among the 10 leading European establishments in the rankings, half of them are French (the Crédit Mutuel, the 10th largest European group, is ranked 31st in the world). Among the global top 30, in addition to the four French banks, there are five European establishments, including HSBC (9th) and Barclays (25th) from Britain, Banco Santander (Spain; 15th), Deutsche Bank (Germany; 27th) and UniCredit (Italy; 30th).

The four largest global banking groups are Chinese: ICBC, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China and Bank of China.

Paris is in first place in Europe and the financial industry represents nearly 800,000 jobs in France.
